Arbor Week
Arbor Week at The Rose Cafe
Our love for all things planted is celebrated by not just us, but by all of South Africa in this special week. Most countries dedicate a day to Arbor Day, but here in South Africa, we have a whole week dedicated to this wonderful awareness campaign. With Spring in the air, the 1st to the 7th of September is set aside to raise awareness, educate, and further green our beautiful country.
In celebration of Arbor Week, The Rose Cafe decided to plant not just one but a whole bank of Pin Cushion Protea Bushes.
Angie says, “I am very aware of water consumption in our garden, so I have many indigenous plants planted in our flower beds. This weekend I was visiting my family in Natal and this plant was planted into my sister’s lovely garden, at her home on the Garlington Estate in Hilton. KZN have been experiencing a very dry season, so these are very appropriate plants to use. They are fantastically water wise and grow into a large bush, covered in proteas that add a profusion of colour to the garden. They last brilliantly in a vase when cut, and even one stem in a bud vase can add a beautifully bold South African statement to your home.”
What are you planting this Arbor Week? Even if it’s just one bush – we challenge you to plant something in your garden!
